We are asking you to invest in the survival and the thriving of this majestic species. As of this week (August 2012) The most critical White Lion Heritage land has come on auction for a fraction of its current value – and is singly the most important next step in our long-term strategy, as it will secure the water source for the entire biosphere region (not only the white lions but all related eco-system is at risk should our efforts fail).
We have a window of opportunity of a very short time to secure this property. An auction of this land has taken place, and the hammer fell at a price that was more than 50% below market value. , and are thus in a strong position to negotiate taking over the property. If the WLT does not secure this conservation strategy, the risk is that mass-housing and high impact resort development may unfold on lands that should be dedicated to wildlife. In line with Global White Lion Protection Trust’s wide-ranging conservation strategy, the organisation has been in discussion with other NGOs such as Wildlands Trust, EWT and Wilderness/Wild Foundation in order to further a united strategy to secure and protect the entire river corridor.
The Global White Lion Protection Trust is seeking funding of US$3,044,000 (Euro 2,464, 000 or 25 Million Rands) in order to secure this land, in partnership with the local Moletele Traditional Authority..
